Coms Honors Day

On Wednesday, April 9 The Department of Communication held its honors day ceremony. The event was opened with a welcome from the Department chair, Dr. Sally Hardig. The next speaker was Interim Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Scott Stephens.

The event included many different types of awards given. There were a few groups of special awards given. The first group included awards given to the staff of the Alabamian. Heather Buckner received an award that highlighted her accomplishments with the school paper. Other recipients of Alabamian honors included Reed Strength and Samuel Phillips.

The Next Set of Awards were given to NBS (National Broadcast Society) Members. These awards were given by Dr. Bruce Finklea. "NBS is designed to give them a leg up in the business and the industry" is what Dr. Finklea said in regards to what NBS is for. These awards are given as a way to recognize the members of NBS.

Other special honors that were given were for members of the communication honors society,Lambda Pi Eta Nu Chapter. These Awards were given by the advisor of the organization, Dr. Tiffany Wang.

Among these awards, there were also honors given for Dean's List and President's list recipients. Scholarships were also given at the ceremony. I was one of the recipients of the Dean's List awards.

The event was a great way to honor both students and staff of the Department of Communication.
