Lambda Chi hosted their second annual “watermelon fest” on King Quad Thursday afternoon.
"We're partnered with Feeding America, and it's to raise canned foods and nonperishable food items for the homeless or the needy or the hungry," said Lambda Chi Jared Hillis.
Admission was either $1 or a can of food. Cash proceeds have not yet been determined, but a spokesperson from Lambda Chi said in total the Greeks raised about 56 lbs of canned goods for their philanthropy, the North American Food Drive.
Events included a watermelon eating contest, a seed spitting contest, tug-of-war, watermelon bowling, a relay race and a costume contest.
More people were in costume than just the competitors, however. One Lambda Chi helped set up for the event in a cardboard robot costume.
"I always win," said the robot. "When you're Sammy Schiffman, you always win--every day." He had not yet actually won an event, however.
