Unexpected Snow Day Hits UM

Story By: Dr. Bruce Finklea

Unexpected snowfall forced UM to cancel classes for Tuesday and Wednesday.

With no class, students found ways to have fun in the snow and to stay warm. From sledding to taking pictures, most students said they are enjoying the snow day.

The University has opened the Student Activity Center as a warming station and is also open for students, faculty, and staff who are stranded on campus.

Montevallo Shooting

By John Albea

The woman who was shot in Montevallo last Monday is now awake and speaking with her family. A source says she is alert and responding to commands.

20 year old Lauren George lives on Overland Road at Falcon Manor 1 with her fiance Jonathon Jones. Jones said that a group of people entered their home to rob them. An argument broke out and shots were fired. George was struck in the head and until Thursday was in critical condition. Two mean, Terry Searcy, 18, and Kevin Gutierrez were arrested in connection with the shooting, each with one count of first degree assault and first degree robbery.

Montevallo police chief Jeremy Littleton said that this was an isolated incident and poses no threat to the community as a whole.

According to George's father, doctors cannot explain how she is making such a remarkable recovery.
