Even though the economy is currently in a slump, that is not stopping the comic book publishers from increasing the prices of their books. Both Marvel and DC, the two most well-known publishers, have also suffered from this, causing their readers to drop titles or simply quit reading comics all together.
Legion Comics, located behind the Summit on US 280, is a small comic shop where the price increase is starting to chip away at their sales figures. Paul Stewart, the owner, even claims that Marvel readers are paying more for something they may or may not want - a digital copy of each book.
John, an employee at Legion, spoke about his dislike for the digital comics because, being older, he has no use for the new technology. For many people, the feeling of a paper book in your hands is no match for the cold feeling of an iPad or Android tablet, just like with eBooks.
Although there are fans who, even with the price increase, will continue to read their comics no matter what, the price increases are hurting the "newbies" to the comic world: if the prices continue to increase, the casual reader will have no reason to buy the books because they want to save more money.
