Students and faculty were on edge this morning after
receiving a UM Alert. The message was sent as a warning for an armed robbery
suspect that was spotted near campus.
The University of Montevallo Police Department says that the
suspect robbed a victim at gunpoint and ran away with money.
UMPD Police Chief Chadd Adams says that the robbery took
place off campus and the suspect was not a UM student.
A lockdown was not issued for the university. Chief Adams
says, “If we wouldn’t have caught him in the exact moment that we did, a lockdown
would have been put into place.”
The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
