Montevallo Featured Falcon- Katie Best

Story by: Sydney Fields

The University of Montevallo women's volleyball team Katie Best, has stepped up to the plate as a strong leader. Not just because of her stats and awards, but because she has earned respect from her teammates through her actions on and off the court.

Leadership goes hand in hand with responsibility. Which is why it is so important for a leader's words to match up with their actions.

Katie says it is a lot of pressure to have the entire team look up to her,

"It's all about keeping consistent with how you act and things you say, and how you play."

Setter Bri Marquez says that Katie's confidence makes her stand out as a person.

"Everything she does, she does it with confidence. It's not to much. It's comfortable to be around because it makes you feel like you're able to do better on and off the court."

Katie goes for the kill
Katie will be graduating in May of 2015, but head coach Katie O'Brien is confident that the junior class possesses strong leadership skills.

"It will be a smooth transition for the most part, but not saying anyone is replaceable. It will be in a different way."

After graduating this May, Katie plans on going to graduate school to pursue a job as a sports psychologist.
